The Women’s City praises intellectual women in Women’s Day and intensifies fruitfully the debate in Al Bukalta.
On Thursday 10th August 2023 we celebrated a critical study of the Women’s City,a novel that has regained Arab women ‘s worth and honor. The book was introduced by the critic professor Hamadi Halawi who focused on the stunning side in this novel. That is love triumph despite the prevailing wickedness committed by most characters. In this novel ,the plot is entirely striking since the novelist merges black comedy with laghing and weeping ,which makes of his novel a masterpiece. It is also a cognitive and cultural alternative plan mainly centered around state and politics, uselessness of classical projects and Arab peoples stillness.Besides, the novelist amasses diverse events, issues and characters in an amazing harmony between mind and body, religion and politics. The narration styles are also various including dialogue, story telling of all types and description. Thus most Arab critics are widely interested in writing about this novel and the readers everywhere care about it too.The Women’s City praises the intellectual women woman by making of her a powerful stimulus to the peoples progress. It also estimates the Arab mind which is the only way to better themselves ,found a new civilization and get rid of their former complexes and illusion of past leadership.
This novel translated into many languages is also introduced by Professor Souad Rebai, its translator into English.Recited the reasons for which she chose The Women’s City to translate, she asserted that this novel is a landmark in the history of Arab Literature owing to its language, style, issues and geometric structure. In fact, the sentence in The Women’s City goes beyond issues of life to linguistics ,which leads us to confirm that this novel is a philosophical plan, too. Not only did it urge critics and scholars for controversial opinions and studies but The Women’s City also rose a deep and fruitful debate in Bkulta,Munastir Governorate. The novelist Lamine Saidi further enhanced such enthusiastic discussion as he said:”The Women’s City goes beyond the literary informative novels and classical books which are only a shallow simulation of reality and far from deep philosophical researches about state and society.
The hot debate that began at ten o’clock ended nearly at three o’clock in the afternoon.
Briefly,The Women’s City is an extension to Lamine Saidi ‘s philosophical plan that he had already started in his first novel ,The Hustle of The Sightless .Then, carried it on in The Last Exile and The Thorn Shadow. It is also apparent in The Women’s City which has made of him a remarkable icon in Contemporary Arabic Literature. Now we wonder whether his novel I Love Her With No Memory which will be soon released ,is going to further expand his project of enlightening Arab peoples after centuries of stillness!
Lamine Saidi is a young Tunisian novelist from Jelma,Sidi Buzid Governorate. An Arabic Language teacher and a member in The Tunisian Authors Rights Institution.
